NAHUSHA CROWNED IN THE PLACE OF INDRA AND HIS DOWNFALL

Nahusha becomes King of the deities, Nahusha falling down from heaven and the devotional love of Shachi towards Indra

From my previous post, we know that Indra had hidden underneath the ocean thinking about the fact of killing one Brahmin without his fault. Here in this submit I will let you know How did Nahusha misused the position of Indra and alongside that I will tell you in short how did Indrani get her husband Indra back in heaven. We all recognize King Yayati who had fallen down from heaven because of his appropriate deeds were over and later he acquired back there by means of practicing austerities along with sages. King Nahusha was the father of King Yayati who also fell down from heaven because of the ceasing his saintly acts. Let me take you that story.

Deities were horrifying discovering their king Indra nowhere on the earth. They requested King Nahusha To turn out to be their king and take the vicinity of Indra. Nahusha cited Them that, he was not enough powerful similar to Indra to protect all the deities. All the Deities, Gandharvas, sages, Yakshas all of them gave Nahusha their power with the aid of asceticism and enthroned him as Indra in heaven. Nahusha was a pious king, on the other hand, he became attracted to all the heavenly enjoyments. He used to be amused by the Apsaras there. Then he wished to intimate with Shachi; the wife of Indra. consumed via lust, he ordered Shachi to serve him.

Shachi used to be already devastated by way of her husband's disappearance.

She was loyal and committed to her husband Indra. She took the shelter of their guru Brihaspati and Brihaspati assured her that Indra would be back to heaven soon. Nahusha was furious listening to such. Scared Deities, sages, and Gandharvas requested him not to desire about Sachi as she was the spouse of Indra and it would be a sin to get close to someone else's wife. 

Nahusha replied to all of them that, "Indra already committed sin through getting intimate with Ahalya; the wife of Sage Gautama, that time no one had stopped him from doing such sin!" All the Deities being terrified of enraged Nahusha agreed to him and went to their guru Brihaspati. They all requested Brihaspati to let Indrani Shachi accept their king Nahusha as her husband. Since Indrani had taken the refuge of Brihaspati he defended her that time and did not let her go near Nahusha.

They all knew that Nahusha was involved in incorrect deeds in heaven. Hence Brihaspati recommended the deities to ask Nahusha for some duration of time as that would end all his righteousness and he would no longer be in a position to remain in heaven. Deities were thrilled to hear this. As per the deities request, Shachi went to Nahusha and asked him for a little time to look for her husband Indra everywhere. 

Also, she noted to him that, "if we fail to discover Indra then I will genuinely serve to you!" Nahusha agreed to her. All the Deities went near Lord Vishnu and prayed him to provide them a solution for assisting Indra to be purged of his Brahmahatya sin and to crown him back on the throne. Lord Vishnu cautioned all of them to perform yajna and also noted that Nahusha would lose all sanity by means of his wrong deeds soon.

All the Deities organized Aswamedha yajna the place Indra was hidden and Indra then performed the rituals worshipped Lord Vishnu and purified himself. When he entered into heaven to get back to his throne he observed Nahusha there and got scared. He again disappeared from there and waited for the right time to come. Shachi was in dilemma that time. She desperately wished to meet with her husband and prayed to the goddess Upashruti. The pleased goddess appeared in front of her and took her near her husband. Indra was hidden as in a tiny structure inner a stalk of lotus underneath a river. The goddess and Shachi formed in a small shape and reached near Indra. Indra was startled to see both of them. Shachi elaborated about Nahusha's behavior and asked Indra to kill him and take back his position. Indra mentioned to her that Nahusha had turned out to be extra powerful with the aid of the Asceticism. Hence it was not possible to defeat him. So he recommended Shachi to ask Nahusha to make all the sages lift him in all places on his Vaahan and via doing such Shachi would consider him as her husband. Shachi as per the strategy went to Nahusha and expressed her desire. Being Lascivious towards sachi Nahusha did accordingly. He made all the seven Rishis or Saptarishis and other sages carry his Vaahan. Nahusha started out humiliating many sages.

Brihaspati performed yajna and presented Havish to the fire god. Then he requested to locate Indra everywhere. Fire god with the Ascetic energy of Brihaspati entered below many oceans and rivers and subsequently determined Indra. Brihaspati along with other deities prayed to Indra and requested him to free all the sages and deities from the sufferings of Nahusha. Deiti Kubera, Dharmaraj Yama, Chandrama, and Varuna additionally reached there and concurred to kill fierce Nahusha. While they were all discussing the way to kill Nahusha, Great Agastya sage approached there. He cited all of them that Nahusha had already lost his position from heaven. He became the cause of his very own downfall.

'Agastya instructed all of them that while carrying him on his Vaahan, sages were exhausted. One of them asked Nahusha, whether he had regarded the prokshan mantra of Cows mentioned in the Vedas have been real or not. Bewildered Nahusha could not answer them and foolishly replied that he had never believed any Veda mantras to be valid. The sages noted him that being concerned in unrighteous acts, Nahusha had forgotten the values of Vedas.

That time Nahusha began arguing with all of the sages and kicked Agastya sage on his head. Agastya referred to Nahusha that time seeing that his Nahusha's whole virtues were lost through that time and he fell down from the heaven. Agastya moreover advised him that he would continue to be on the earth for ten thousand years as a snake and after completing the specific period he would acquire heaven.'

After hearing this all the sages and deities alongside with Apsaras prayed Indra to get back to his place. Angira sage worshiped Indra with Atharva Veda mantras. Then Indra received his glory and dignity and ruled heaven again.
